Day trip to Tiya, Adadi Maryam and Melka Kuntre

Drive 90 km on a very good new asphalt road from the capital, and only 500m from the main road; Tiya stelae field consists of about 40 stelea which stand between one and three meters high. It is one of the nine UNESCO world heritage sites in Ethiopia. On your return to Addis Ababa detour to Adadi Maryam church, which is the only rock hewn church in the South of Ethiopia (all the others are in the North) and dates back to the 12th century. Finally stop at the Melka Kuntre prehistoric archeological site.
